Nova Scotia: ACAS Conference March 5-6, 2012

Print

C-Change Co-Applicant Don Forbes will be attending the Climate Change: Getting Ready Conference March 5-6, 2012.  This conference discusses the results of the Atlantic Climate Adaptation Solutions Program (ACAS) and is sponsored by the Province of Nova Scotia and the Government of Canada.

Changes in temperature, sea level, rainfall, and extreme weather are happening right now. These changes mean we will need to make adjustments to the way we live.

The Atlantic Climate Adaptation Solutions (ACAS) program has brought together communities, governments, academics, and consultants to help examine both the challenges and opportunities arising from climate change.

The conference will feature distinguished keynote speakers, expert presentations, panels moderated by leading practitioners, and interactive sessions focused on municipal issues. This is an opportunity to share ACAS results and get involved in adaptation efforts moving forward.

Take a look at the Conference Poster here.

C-Change is pleased to announce that Dr. Michael Sutherland has received approval from the UWI Campus Research and Publication Grant 2011 for funds totaling TT$44,225.00 to support the transfer of knowledge to UWI of Titus Tiennah's PPGIS (technical construction), which he developed as part of his Masters degree. The intention is to develop similar software for use in the Caribbean communities that are part of our ICURA project, and at the same time develop the skills of Caribbean researchers and students.

This award demonstrates Canada-Caribbean team collaboration, and efforts by our ICURA team to secure additional funding for our project.

Congratulations to all in involved, and we look forward to many more collaborations like this!  Great news for C-Change!

Kira Lise Leung, who has recently completed her Masters work with Michelle Mycoo at UWI, joined the C-Change meetings held in Ottawa on November 25, 2011 and presented her thesis work on flooding in Georgetown, Guyana to our Canadian Co-Applicants, Community Partners and Research Associates.

It was an excellent presentation and it was so great to get a first hand account of the work being done with our Caribbean counterparts.

Keep up the good work, Kira Lise!
